The dream may have begun when Michelle purchased her first English teapot, matching sugar
and creamer set, and teacup when she was fifteen at a local gift shop. But it probably began well
before that, as she staged numerous tea parties as a child with her sister and their dollies.
Whenever the seed was planted, it took root and grew from a hobby to a business, when in 1998
Lady Elegant’s Tea Room became a reality.
After successfully hosting a bridal tea for a dear friend, Lady Elegant was encouraged to open her
doors to others, and so she did with a six-course tea entitled “Sweet Valentine” for family and
friends in her Andover home. Over the course of the next five years, word of her carefully themed
English teas spread by word of mouth and through her mailing list, which gradually grew to over
300 addresses.
On the first of May 2003, Lady Elegant
re-established her tea room in the St. Anthony Park neighborhood of St. Paul, Minnesota. There she has
continued to create an atmosphere of peace and quiet relaxation with afternoon and theme teas,
and a gift shoppe full of teapots, teacups, premium loose-leaf teas, and accessories.
